Roles and Constructs

User Roles

These are the Use Case Portal user roles:

  • Use Case Admin: These users are tasked with creating and managing use cases. These users would initiate, approve, and finalize the use case proposal.
  • Use Case Owner: This role is tasked with defining the Use Case Members and Shared Datasets. They will ultimately approve the use case members and datasets.
  • Use Case Member: A user who will have access to the resources within the use case project as defined by the Use Case Owner and Use Case Admin.
  • Dataset Owner: The key decision maker for classifying and managing a dataset within that organization.

Notes:

  • Use Case Admins and Use Case Owners have no access to the actual use case project that's created after all approvals are obtained (i.e. they can see the presence of the use case project, but do not have access to the project resources).
  • Use Case Admins and Use Case Owners can also be added as Use Case Members (subject to approval).
  • Use Case Members have no approval abilities in UCP by default, but they have the most access in the actual use case project (Editor role).

UCP Constructs

These are the core UCP constructs:

  • Use Case: A use case is a shared project between organizations whose participants have entered into a contractual agreement for sharing data.
  • Shared Dataset: A dataset that has been approved for sharing by the original organization's dataset owner and is approved for inclusion in a particular use case.
